Since 1997, the Dublin Docklands on the river Liffey has undergone a major redevelopment. The heart of this modern uprising is Grand Canal Square by Daniel Libeskind. Other notable additions include:
U2 Tower, or Britain Quay Tower, was intended to be the tallest building in Ireland, but was scrapped after Ireland had a huge economic downturn. At 180m it would have been completed in 2011.
Spencer Dock, a 206,000 m² development with apartments, offices, retail, park, and leisure activities. It includes the Convention Centre Dublin and PricewaterhouseCoopers' Irish headquarters and is due to be finally completed in 2018.
Heuston Gate, a 32 floor tower by Paul Keogh Architects was also scrapped due to the economic downturn.
Point Village, a €800 million development that includes retail, cinema, museum, offices, and a hotel. Its O2 concert venue opened in 2008 and the Gibson Hotel opened in 2010. Some venues are still under construction.
