Wetzlar Cathedral, Wetzlar Germany

The Wetlzar Dom was established by the Franks as early as 897 AD. This basilica was replaced by a the High Gothic structure that stands there today, which was expanded over the next centuries. It is one of the oldest churches in Europe and integral in the history of Christianity and the reformation. Considerable restoration had to be done after the damage of World War 2. The exterior appearance and interior space are dark and sinister, largely because of poor restoration, but it gives a hint of what cathedrals actually looked like in the Gothic era. The front tower is particularly unique from other churches.
