Marshall Field, Chicago Illinois

Charles B. Atwood of D. H. Burnham & Company designed the Marshall Field Wholesale Store in Chicago Illinois, completed in 1914 after the Great Fire. Currently it is a Macy's.

It replaced a large and beautiful cut stone bearing masonry building. The current Classical Revival style structure is still one of the largest retail store building in the world. Several enormous atriums fill the space, including a 5-story atrium with a Tiffany glass mosaic ceiling. The Walnut Room accommodated gentlemen's clubs.
