Quinlivan, Pierik and Krause designed the brutalist Richard G. Folsom Library for the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY. It was completed in 1976.
After the old library was destroyed in a fire, the college built this controversial $7 million library in the Modernist style of the day. It is perched on the hillside above Troy. A plaza and underground annex connects it to the nearby St. Joseph's Chapel, and construction errors cause a bowing in the floors. Students say the library is sliding into Troy due to the error.
