The Gamble House, Pasadena California

Charles and Henry Greene designed the Gamble House as a winter residence for David and Mary Gamble of the Procter and Gamble Company, completed in 1909 near Los Angeles.
The David B. Gamble House is classic American Arts and Crafts style, which incorporates traditional Japanese elements, careful hand craftsmanship, local materials, and the middle-class home.

A variety of woods (teak, maple, oak, Port Orford Cedar, and mahogany) and exposed joints celebrate the material. The arrangement of spaces around a central hall and the low horizontal structure is taken from Frank Lloyd Wright. The terraces and porches draws the occupant to the gardens, with the landscaping carefully proportioned with the structure.
