Daniel Libeskind designed the Denver Art Museum. it opened in 2006, as Denver sought to add cultural prestige in the height of the "Bilbao Effect" phenomenon.

Libeskind drew inspiration from the geometric landscape of the Rocky Mountains, considering the forms of nature as the mother of human design. The titanium-clad angles engage the built context of the downtown city and form the site while accommodating the interior functions.

The central gathering space El Pomar Atrium plays on daylight streaming in and shadows formed from the sharply angled elements. The architecture in each exhibit engages the art in new ways.
