Nordic Embassy Complex, Berlin Germany

Berger and Parkkinen designed the master plan for the Nordic Embassy in Berlin, started in 1999. The angled plan of the building is derived from pedestrian paths through the urban landscape. The main common building, “Fælleshus", is copper clad with horizontal perforations to shade sunlight. There is a variety of transparencies in the building, from open glazing to heavy plated exterior walls. A reflective water element in the central plaza represents the Nordic countries united in a central zone, with unique characteristics to each individual building.
