Make your own Pecan facial scrub at home

Have you ever tried to make your own facial scrub? You can and it is easy, using some great ingredients like Pecans. I love eating Pecans - they are packed full of the 'good' fats - monounsaturated, polyunsaturated and omega-3, they have a higher antioxidant capacity than any other nut and eating a handful of Pecans a day provides you with 19 vitamins and minerals.

I found it interesting to know that I can make my own Pecan facial scrub, so I was excited to try it out when I was sent the ingredients.

You can now make a simple Pecan facial scrub using three ingredients:

2 tablespoons of avocado
1 tablespoon of ground pecans
1 tablespoon of honey
1. Mix the honey and avocado together.
2. Add the ground pecans into the honey and avocado and mix together.
3. To apply facial scrub, gently massage mixture on your face in a circular motion, avoiding eyes.

When mixed really well, the ingredients become a well mixed smooth mixture. When I applied this to my face, gently applying it in circular motions it felt nice and when I washed it off my skin, my skin felt smooth and clean. A great homemade facial scrub!

I have one Pecan Facial scrub kit which includes a packet of pecans, mortar and pestle, a avocado and jar of honey. (CLOSED)

Sigma makeup brushes - Synthetic Kabuki Kit review

Makeup brushes are a great investment to make for anyones makeup collection. To achieve a flawless professional makeup application you need good quality brushes. I have always been a fan of makeup brushes and you don't need to spend a lot to get good quality brushes.

I have been using Sigma brushes for a while now and a few months ago I purchased the Sigma Synthetic Kabuki kit . I ordered them online and at the time Sigma were having free shipping, so I just had to try this set of brushes.

These makeup brushes are really exquisite quality, I love everything about them. The bristles are soft, but dense and they have a sturdy handle and easy to use. They are easy to wash and they don't shed when you wash them.

Sigma Beauty says: The Synthetic Kabuki Kit contains four face brushes for high definition, flawless makeup application. The brushes in this collection feature exclusive Synthetic filament, specially designed to apply powder and liquid products without absorption into the fibers. The shape, density and height of the filaments were carefully engineered to perfectly buff products onto the skin, resulting in a high definition effect.

Here are the four brushes in this kit:

The F80 a Flat Kabuki brush great for all over application of liquid and cream foundations. It allows you to buff the foundation onto the skin which gives a flawless finish.

The F82 is a Round Kabuki similar to the F80 except the round shape. This is great to apply liquid and cream foundation, the curved shape means it is great for around the eyes, nose and chin. This brush can also be used for applying mineral foundation.

The F84 is a Angled Kabuki brush, this is great for applying blush powder or cream. Also can be used for contouring the face and I have also used it for applying foundation. A versatile brush with many uses.

The F86 is the Tapered Kabuki brush has a tapered shape which is great to use on any areas of the face where you need precise application. I like it for applying powder, concealer, blush and contouring.
You can also apply primer and a highlighter with this brush for that precise application.

Overall I really love these brushes, they are affordable and great quality. If your starting out in makeup or need brushes for your collection I would recommend these. This collection and many other great Sigma brushes can be purchased online at Sigma Beauty

Difference between lipstick and lip gloss?

I love lip products and get asked quite a bit which I prefer lipstick or lipgloss? It's a hard question to answer because they both have great features. So I wanted to let you know what the difference is between a lipstick and a lipgloss.

There are many brands and many different formulas which are all great but when looking at a basic lipstick and lipgloss here are some of the differences:

LIPSTICK

Lipsticks come in a few different textures and are great at providing rich colour that can last a long time (depending on which type you choose).

You can get matt lipsticks which provide colour and are great for long lasting colour, however they can make your lips dry.

Creamy lipsticks come in really true colours and are great for those prone to get dry lips.

Frosted lipsticks are shimmery colour lipsticks and work well to create a fuller lip.

LIPGLOSS

Lipgloss can come in a tube or pot packaging. Lipgloss does wear off quicker than lipstick.

Sheer lipgloss provide a hint of colour and lots of shine.

Sparkling lipglosses are glitter or shimmer infused and are great to add something more to your lips than traditional lip products.

Shiny lipglosses are great to give you lots of shine, some can give you a really wet look.

Creamy lipgloss gives you more colour and a creamier feel to your lips (but not quite like a lipstick)

These days there are so many different varieties to choose from that you are definitely going to find something that suits you. Both lipsticks and lipglosses can be found in long lasting and moisturising formulas. You can wear both a lipstick and lipgloss together, which looks great.

And don't forget if you have dry lips - before applying lipstick or lipgloss, apply a moisturising lip balm and leave it on for a good ten minutes or so to give you smooth lips and then you can apply your lipstick or lip gloss.

Do you have a preference for lipstick or lipgloss?

Why exfoliation is good for your skin

Many people forget about exfoliation. Why should I exfoliate? you may ask. There are some really good reasons why exfoliating is good for your skin.

When you exfoliate you are removing the top layer of dead skin cells that tend to dull your complexion. It removes the flaky skin you may have so when you apply your moisturiser or serum, it is absorbed better and your foundation glides on smoothly on your skin.

Exfoliation stimulates blood circulation whilst removing dead skin cells and increases the cell renewal rate. This then makes your skin look and feel softer and smoother and you will have a healthy glow.

If you get pimples and blackheads they are caused by a build up of oil, dirt and dead skin cells that are usually in your pores. Exfoliating will help to remove the buildup, as our skin is sensitive ensure you are gentle when using a exfoliator, just rub gently in circular motions on your face.

Exfoliating at least two to three times is great for the skin, but it depends on your skin type so try a few different options to see what works for you.

Body exfoliation is good as well, I usually use a exfoliating glove for the body and it works really well, leaving the skin softer and smoother.

Do you exfoliate your skin? How often is best for your skin type?

Pamper yourself with Pauls Milk

A few weeks ago, I received a gorgeous pamper pack from Pauls Milk! Pauls Milk have redesigned their packaging and made it easier to open the milk caps. You just lift, pull the tab up and clockwise and it's open, easy - no spill, no mess.

The cartons have a sloping top angle so that it stacks better on the shelf and in the fridge. I love buying these 1litre milk cartons as they are handy, convenient and now mess free.

I love milk for making my favourite warm drink  - hot chocolate!

I have tried the Pauls Milk body scrub recipe which is very nice on the skin, here is how I made it:

What you will need:
  • 2 tablespoons of Pauls Skinny Milk
  • 1/3 cup of salt
  • 1 tablespoon of honey
  • 1 teaspoon of olive oil
  • 4 drops of Vanilla essential oil
Method:

Add all the ingredients into a jar and shake or stir with a small spoon until well combined.

When in the shower, run the water to dampen your skin and then turn it off. Gently massage the scrub into your skin and then turn the water back on and rinse it off.

Store the milk scrub with the lid tightened, in the fridge for 2-3 days.

You can also add this entire mixture to your bath for the ultimate in relaxation.

I'm definitely impressed with the Pauls Milk packaging - no more spilling the milk for me, as I love these new easy to use caps, check them out at your local supermarket. Next time your in need of some pampering, try out a home made body scrub or even a yummy hot chocolate with Pauls Milk!

Seven Tips: How to make your nail polish last longer?

I love wearing nailpolish and change my nail colour every week. There are some nail colours that don't even last two days before they start chipping. So I have been really interested in how to make my nailpolish last longer. Here are a few things I have found about nails and nailpolish:

1. Ensure your nails have been cleaned and all oils removed properly. Using a good nail polish remover to clean everything off your nails is important to create a clean nail base.

2.  Apply a base coat first. Base coats contain nutrients to help prevent breakage, splitting, peeling etc. It helps to protect your nail, prevent staining the nails and helps keep the nail polish on longer. Base coats should dry matte, sticky and fast.

3. Apply your nailpolish thinly, not thick. It's best to apply several layers of nailpolish thinly, for better results.

4. Apply a top coat. Top coats act as a barrier, prevent nail polish from chipping and give you a long lasting shine. If you have the time you can apply a top coat everyday so that the nailpolish lasts even longer. Top coats will dry shiny and dry slowly on the nail.

5. Try not to remove your nail polish more than once or twice a week, because it will dry out your nails.

6. You can store your nail polish in the refrigerator. It will last longer and can be easier to apply.

7. Wear gloves when cleaning or doing chores that involve water. Prolonged exposure to water can cause nail damage and can dry out your skin and nails. (Tips on how to look after your hands)

Tips on how to look after your hands

Lately I have been really keen on looking after my hands. Just as we look after our face, our hands are important too. Hands are also one area where the earliest signs of aging will show. The skin on the back of our hands is really delicate and thin therefore needing extra care.

So I have been doing a few things to keep my hands feeling soft and smooth.

1. When applying my sunscreen on my face and body I also apply some to the back of my hand. I always keep sunscreen in my car so that I can apply some before I start driving as the sun can affect your hands even when driving.

2. When I wash the dishes ( or clean aronund house with water) I always wear gloves to protect my hands from detergents.

3. Use mild/gentle soap when washing your hands.

4. In the shower about two times a week, I use a gentle exfoliant ( same as what I use on my face) on the back of my hand to remove any dead skin cells. ( you can make your own exfoliant by mixing sea salt and lemon juice)

5. I moisturise my hands to keep my skin hydrated and moisturised. (you can use hand cream too)

6. Every few weeks I will soak my hands in warm olive oil for a few minutes and then wrap them in plastic glad wrap for a few more minutes to get smooth skin.

How to take care of your lips

Lately I have been paying extra attention to my lips. I love wearing either lip gloss or lipstick or both on my lips all the time, but of course I don't like it when my lips are dry.

Here are some tips:

1. Moisturise your lips at all times. Invest in a good lip moisturiser and apply in the morning before applying lipstick/lipgloss.

2. Before going to bed every night, apply a lip balm on your lips. Sleeping with a lip balm on means you will wake up with smoother lips.

3. Exfoliate your lips - There are a few ways to do this, I like two ways. Usually on a regular basis I have a toothbrush that I use gently to exfoliate my lips with. Once or twice a week I get one teaspoon of sugar and one teaspoon of olive oil, mix them in a bowl until it turns into a paste and then gently use your finger to exfoliate for one minute on your lips. Remove with a moist towel and then apply a lip balm.

4. During the day, use a lip product that has SPF in it to protect your skin from damage from the sun. Always carry a lip balm with you and reapply throughout the day as needed.

5. Don't pick at your lips. By biting your lips it will make your lips more dry, chapped and they can bleed. If you feel the need to pick at them, apply milk on them instead, this helps to moisturise them.

Four Beauty Tips

Being a beauty enthusiast that I am, the one thing I love is learning about beauty tips. There are so many that are really good and can help make things easier when it comes to beauty.

So these four are my tried and tested beauty tips that I love and have been using for years that I wanted to share.

1. Eyebrows- To get them to stay put, I get a comb (normal or eyebrow comb) spray it with hairspray and then comb the eyebrow. The hairspray helps the eyebrows stay put all day.

2. Lips - After applying lipstick to my lips, I apply lipgloss to the centre of the lips only, top and bottom. This gives my lips a fuller look.

3. Underarms - I exfoliate my underarms once a week, with a gentle exfoliator and exfoliating glove. Makes my skin smooth and gentle. Great if you have dry skin

4. Skin - Drinking warm water with lemon in the mornings I find does make a difference to my skin overall.

So those are a few of my beauty tips, there will be more to come soon.

10 tips on how to be organised

Ever since I can remember I have been a organised person. In school I had everything categorised and ready to go everyday. As an adult, my diary and calendar are my best friends. I just have to write everything down so I don't forget.

There have been many times though, no matter how much I try to be organised - things can get a little out of control. I go back to my list of general tips on how to be organised here it is:

1. Shopping online for groceries saves me time and money. It takes away the stress of going out to do the shopping when sometimes I just don't have the time.

2. I buy in bulk whenever there are sales - on grocery items, household goods or kids clothing.

3. Keep a fridge notebook on the fridge and write on it things you need to remember or do - its a great reminder.

4. Cleaning a cupboard or room per week, helps to keep on top of the clutter that may accumulate.

5. I always make sure I have washed the dishes before going to bed. Its just easier to wake up to a clean sink, after breakfast the dishes pile up again, so it helps to keep dirty dishes to a minimum.

6. I have a organised filing system, where I keep all our bills, statements etc..... I also have a emergency folder where I keep birth certificates, house insurance, bank account numbers etc in case there is a emergency evacuation.

7. I have a garbage bag that I keep in my walk in wardrobe and as I find clothes that don't fit or don't want anymore I put them straight in there and take it to the second hand shop.

8. I always plan the clothes I am going to wear for the next day the night before. That way I am not spending too much time in the morning trying to work out what to wear and possibly risk being late, which has happended before!

9. I have three separate baskets in the laundry, one for whites, one for coloured and one for towels. This way I am not spending time sorting through them as they are already sorted.

10. Clean as you go - this is my motto that I have the whole family working on. If we use something we put it back where it belongs. Or if the kids have been playing and leave things  - we pack them up before going to bed.

So apart from these tips, my phone calendar is great to set alarms for certain events or things I need to do to remind myself. I think being organised is something you can never know too much about, there is always something new to learn.

Tell me what are your tips to be organised? Do you do any of these things too?

6 Hair tips to achieve healthy hair

Maintaining hair care is important if you want healthy hair. Over the last few years I have had coloured hair and as a result my hair has been dry and damaged. I have done a lot of research and tried many products to achieve healthy hair. So I've learned a few tips along the way and wanted to share them with you..

Don't wash your hair everyday - I know this might sound a bit 'dirty' but washing your hair too much will make your hair lose its natural oils and may make your hair dry. By washing your hair every second day you are giving it time to absorb the hair's natural oils. Using a dry shampoo is a great product to use on the days your don't wash your hair. I was reluctant to use dry shampoo's as I didn't think they worked but now I love them. If you feel that you have to wash your hair everyday, try using a deep conditioner (with a cap on) once a week as it locks in your hair's moisture.

Dry your hair gently- Instead of vigorously rubbing your hair with a towel, try and pat dry your hair. This prevents damage to the hair. Allowing your hair to air dry is also great for your hair.

Don't brush your hair - When your hair is wet, use a comb only. Brushing your hair can create breakage in your hair. A wide comb is best.

Drink Water - Water is also good for maintaining good hair health, as is a balanced diet and omega 3.

Limit heat appliances - Hair does get damaged over time if you use too many heat appliances. Try and limit to using a heat appliance to a few times a week. if you have to use heat appliances everyday, use a hair protectant to protect the hair.

Trim regularly - Having your hair trimmed regularly, every  6-8 weeks is really good for your hair. The bottom of our hair becomes dry and you get split ends. If you don't trim these off, the dryness and split ends can travel all the way up your hair. Maintaining this with a regular trim helps keep the hair healthy.

How to make your eyeshadow last longer?

No matter what brand eyeshadow I use, my eyeshadow creases. I have oily lids and no matter what eyeshadow I use it will crease or wear off half way through the day. So after searching for the solution to my problem I have found some great ways to keep your eyeshadow on longer.

Eye primer - Using a eye primer works the best for my eyelids. I use the Urban Decay Primer potion and love it. There are many eyeshadow primers so find the right one and you will find that your eyeshadow will stay put all day. A primer is basically a base for your eyelids and something that your eyeshadow will hold on to and stay on longer.

Face Powder - Applying a translucent face powder over your lids can create a base for your eyeshadow to stick to. The powder will absorb the oils from the lid. Then apply your eyeshadow on top.

Wet eyeshadow - Before applying your eyeshadow, take your brush and wet it and then apply your eyeshadow. Using a damp applicator can help your eyeshadow stay on longer and makes the colour more intense and brighter.

Overall I would recommend using a eye primer, I find that to be the most effective.

How to not look tired?

We all know that sleep is important for our general well being. An adult should have at least eight hours sleep. However this doesn't always happen so let's talk about a few things we can do in the beauty department to look like we have had sleep - even though we haven't! ( Links are to products I have reviewed)
Eyes

Using a concealer to cover and conceal the under eye area is going to help brighten up the under eye area. Be sure to apply the concealer under the eye and bring it down in a triangle shape on top of the cheek as well. Blend it all well and then set it with a powder.

Use neutral colours for eyeshadow to keep the eye look simple. If you have a shimmer eyeshadow thats even better as it will add sparkle to your eyes. Mascara is great to make your eyes look open and awake.

Face

Blush is definitely great to give your face some colour and warmth. Go for a peachy or pinky colour as a lighter colour will give your face a glowy look.

Lips

Definitely a great lip colour will help give your face a overall great look. You can either use a lipstick or lipgloss, to give your face some colour and gloss ( if using a lipgloss) and the look of freshness.

Fashion

Adding jewellery to your outfit will definitely brighten up your whole outfit. Necklaces and/or earrings that are bold and colourful will look great.

When choosing your clothes, don't just go for dark colour clothing, but rather add some bright colours to your outfit. Perhaps black pants, red top and a brown jacket. You can also add a scarf (if your not wearing a necklace).

Having your hair up in a ponytail or in a half up do hairstyle will give your face a lift. Having a 'up' style will give your face a open, clean look.

Do you get told you 'look tired'? What do you do to look awake?

Manicare Precision Blending Sponge review

A few of my viewers on my you tube channel requested that I do a review of the Manicare Precision Blending Sponge, so I wanted to show you the review here on my blog too.

I have never really liked applying my foundation with my fingers, so I have always used a foundation brush. However I find it hard to blend my foundation with a foundation brush and find that it takes longer to apply foundation. When I'm in a rush I usually use a compact foundation, but I really like the finished look of a liquid foundation. So I am really enjoying using the Manicare Precision Blending Sponge as it is quick to use and it blends the foundation really well.

If you find it hard to apply your foundation, definitely check out the Manicare Precision Blending Sponge, it retails for $7.95 aud in Priceline or department stores.

Tips on how to achieve your goals

To achieve your goals it takes focus, drive and determination. So many times we can get frustrated when we are not achieving what we wanted and then give up. When this happens, don't give up, but rather step back and reassess your goals. Give yourself time to go over your goals and how you are going to acheive them. A goal can be big or small.

Here are some tips to achieving your goal:

1. Make sure you have a actual goal - When thinking of a goal, think what it is that YOU want to achieve? Is this what YOU are passionate about? Is this what YOU want and you are not influenced by anyone else?  For example your goal is to read a novel or write a article.

2. Be realistic -  Make sure the goal you are setting is realistic. You have to be able to achieve this goal, so don't set a goal that cannot be achieved. Think it through carefully. For example trying to read a novel in two days is not realistic, reading a novel in a month is realistic.

3. Can you keep track of how you are going? - When thinking of setting a goal you need to give yourself something to measure your progress by to be able to keep track of how you are going. Your goal needs to be really specific about what it is and how you are going to achieve it. For example I am going to eat well, is something you can't measure. I am going to have two fruits and one vegetable everyday is measurable.

4. Timeframe -  You need to have a timeframe of when you are going to achieve your goal. A timeframe allows you to see how you are progressing and you can stay motivated knowing exactly where you are at with your goal.

Setting goals can be a daunting experience because it means you have to change what you have been doing so far and be accountable to achieve your goals. Its easy to get sidetracked and then you think 'oh well there is always next year'. Don't let this happen, be determined to achieve what you want. YOU are the only person that can make things happen. Do it for you, do it because it makes you happy.

Remember anything is possible if YOU make it happen!

Do you set goals for yourself? What do you do, to get back on track?

Nivea Visage Daily Essentials Gentle Facial cleansing wipes review

When I am wearing a full face of makeup, I use the Nivea Visage Daily Essentials Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes to remove my makeup and then use a cleanser to cleanse my face. These are the only wipes I have used so far so I can't compare them to any others, but I really like them.

I have combination and sensitive skin so I was attracted to them as they are gentle and for sensitive skin.

Nivea says " Nivea Visage Daily Essentials Gentle Facial Cleansing Wipes have been specially developed to care for the needs of dry and sensitive skin. The soft wipes guarantee a thorough yet mild and convenient cleansing of the face, neck and eye area. Your skin is left feeling soft, supple and moisturised"

I think they do the job well, I use two wipes one for each side of my face. They are soft to use and take off most of my makeup. I also use them to remove my eye makeup by swiping across the eyelid once or twice. On its own I don't feel these are enough to clean my face properly so I still continue my normal face routine and cleanse with a cleanser after using these. These are good to get rid of most of your makeup making it easier to cleanse.

The wipes are enriched with hydramine and aloe vera which is great and they are alcohol free therefore hydrates the skin, helping to prevent dryness.

They retail for under $8 aud and can be found at priceline and supermarkets.

How to choose the right foundation?

Photobucket
Finding the right foundation can be tricky. There are so many out there, to find the right one there are a few things you need to consider:

1.What is your skin type? If you have oily skin then look for a oil free or mattifying foundation. If you have dry skin choose a hydrating or moisture rich foundation  If you have combination skin decide if you're more oily or dry and then choose the appropriate foundation or you can try a cream to powder foundation if you can't decide. Mineral foundations work well on all skin types, especially sensitive skin.

2. Do you want a light, medium or full coverage? If you have good skin then a light coverage would be fine. If you have uneven skin tone or blemishes, consider a medium coverage foundation. If you want full coverage then a full coverage foundation will be the obvious choice.

3. Test it out. When buying foundation it is best to try the tester on a clean face. You can moisturise but don't show up wearing foundation already as this won't help when trying to test a new foundation.

4. Choosing the right colour. Try a few shades that you think are close to your natural skin tone. Usually yellow based foundations look most natural on all skin tones. If you're very fair, try a pink based shade. The best was to test a foundation is to apply a stoke of it on your cheek or jawline and see which one blends in with your skin the best. Don't test on the back of your hand as your skin on your hand is different to your face.

5. Lighting. Depending on the lighting you foundation may look darker or lighter. Its always best to try and look at your foundation in natural light. Obviously when you are buying your foundation in the shop there is no natural lighting, but try and not stand right under the bright lights as this can make your foundation look different. Try and walk around a little in the shop to see what it looks like from all angles and lighting.

If you can avoid wearing foundation on some days, thats great as it is good for your skin to be left clean and moisturised only. If you feel like liquid foundations are not right for you, you may want to try mineral foundation which is good for all skin types or tinted moisturisers which are a moisturiser with some foundation in it.

I will be doing some reviews on a few foundation I have tried lately - so stay tuned for that!

What is your favourite foundation at the moment?

TRESemme Fresh Start Dry Shampoo Review

When I saw the TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo on sale I thought I'd give it a try. I have seen mixed reviews on this product, depending on your hair type it seems to work different for everyone.

I usually like to wash my hair everyday because I have oily roots and generally dry hair ( due to colouring) and by the second day you can tell that I need to wash my hair. I try not to though as I also don't like to strip my hair of its natural oils. So a dry shampoo sounds great to use.

The TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo is the first one I have used and I like it. The way this product works is the formula has mineral clay that soaks up excess oil and impurities to leave your hair looking refreshed. It also contains citrus extracts to neutralize odor and enhance your hair to feel clean gives it added body and bounce. The spray has a nice subtle citrus smell.

Its easy to use, it comes in a can with a spray nozzle.

To use it you need to give the can a good shake before using it and then spray the roots of your hair evenly holding the can 30-40cms away from your head. I spray it in short sprays and shake the can in between sprays. You then leave it in for 1-2 minutes to allow the hair to soak up the oil. I then use my fingers to rough it up and then brush my hair and style it. Once you use it a few times you will find the best technique.

For me it works really well and gives my hair some volume if styled. A few times it left a white residue on my hair, but I found that was because I was spraying too close and didn't wait long enough 1-2 minutes before brushing and styling. Other than that it did its job. My hair looks decent and saves me washing it everyday.

The TRESemme Fresh Start dry shampoo retails for around $11 aud and can be purchased from Priceline or department stores.

Beauty tips on how to prevent aging skin

We all want younger looking skin, right?

No matter how old you are there are things you can put in place to help prevent your skin from aging quickly.

The signs of aging skin that are most common are wrinkles, fine lines, age spots, under eye puffiness, circles and sagginess.

Here are three tips that if applied everyday will help overtime to prevent your skin from aging :

1. Use sunscreen everyday - Staying out of the sun is the best way to avoid the sun and no matter what the weather is like or what season we are in - you must wear sunscreen.
