Prada

Miuccia had been making black waterproof backpacks since 1970, out of a nylon fabric called 'Pocone'. She unveiled the classic Prada handbag - simple, sleek, black nylon in 1985 and became an overnight sensation. The bag was functional and sturdy, practical and fashionable. The high price tag that accompanied the handbags caused an onslaught of designer knock-offs, which only helped to make the genuine Prada articles more in demand. In the 1980's, other labels were creating designs that played on sexuality. Frilly, lacy, brightly colored garments that were low cut on top and short on the bottom were popular. Prada hit the runway in 1989 with its pret-a-porter collection, with elegant, simple pieces featuring clean lines, luxurious fabrics, and basic colors. The fashion world took notice, and Prada's popularity skyrocketed.

By the 1990s, Prada was a leading force in fashion. The garments and accessories were smart, sophisticated, and extremely high quality. Luxurious fabrics and simple styles, mostly in blacks, browns, grays, greens, and creams, became the signature Prada look. The apparel was sexy and spoke of confidence without revealing too much skin. Accessories included skinny leather belts, elegant high heeled shoes, and of course, the classic handbag.

High on Prada

What was I thinking?!

I just bought a pair of impossible sandals from Prada. I don't even know if I'll be able to walk in them. My biggest fear is that I'll twist my ankle trying to walk in them. Now that would be embarrassing...

They are nice looking, though, aren't they?

Misha wore Prada...

It's only once a fashion week, whether it be Ready to Wear, Couture or Menswear, is over that we get the chance to take a look back and celebrate the major breakouts of the Season. Following what was a hugely successful opening show Season for many of our Elite boys we couldn’t move on without saying a major congratulations to Misha Patel...an Elite London guy through and through, Misha snapped up the holy grail of show bookings as an exclusive for Prada in Milan. We couldn’t be more proud, of our boys and our board as a whole...bring on the rest of 2011!

Prada love

It was love at first sight. I saw this pair of beige-blush heels and I just had to have them!

I love the girly ribbon detail, the colour (nude shoes are my favourite), and the fact that the heels are not too high. Just looking at these shoes makes me happy!

And I found a silk top (on sale) and a cute belt... also from Prada.

Have you done any Prada shopping lately?
Or: what's on your Prada wishlist?

Next: Prada?

I love designer handbags, you know that, and when I got my classic Chanel bag (which I will show you soon) I swore to myself that I would only buy Chanel bags from then on. But then I fell in love with a red Dior (see it here). And once I had that, I felt I had enough handbags (I have more than just these two) and I should start saving up for an Hermes Birkin. And I have kept my word... for a year.

But I am starting to realise that maybe this is not such a good idea. Because even if I argue that the Hermes is the ultimate bag and I would never need another, the truth - I think - is that I get bored. So I would probably sleep with the Hermes for a year (literally, probably), then start flirting around with other bags again... and at some point the Hermes would just become 'another' handbag in my collection.

I've sort of decided that I desperately need a brown bag and I like this one from Prada more than I would like to admit.

But... and this is where I start to lose sight of that "I need a brown bag" argument (didn't take long, did it?)... I do like this grey one, too.

And these are not what I had in mind at all but I like them, anyway. I'm already trying to decide between the big one or the small one...

Which one do you like best? Should I even go for Prada at all?!

Sigrid has just left us after the most incredible first London show season ever with a show list that includes Aquacutum, Matthew Williamson, Burberry and Unique. It seems like Sigrid had barely left the UK before she was spotted strutting down the runway for the biggest names in Milan Fashion Week, building up a designers like a fashionista’s wardrobe! So far we’ve seen our girl walk for Dolce & Gabbana, Emilio Pucci, Fendi, Gucci, Marni, Missoni and Prada... With Paris next on the agenda it looks like Sigrid is in for one of the most successful seasons of her career!

CZECH HER OUT...

One of our hottest new faces to watch is Czech beauty Barbora Dvorakova - having already walked for the likes of Prada and Vivienne Westwood last season we were ready for a big SS10 season for her, and she didn't disappoint, with Burberry the first to snap her up (before she even arrived in town!) One of a cast of fresh young faces for the future (including Dorothea), Barbora rocked some of the best pieces in the show, including the blue draped skirt and killer lurex trousers. And of course she rolled up to all her shows in every supermodel-in-the-making's essential accessory - an eye catching car!
