Saint Benedict Chapel, Sumvitg Graubünden Switzerland

Pritzker Prize-winning Peter Zumthor and Annalisa Zumthor designed the Caplutta Sogn Benedetg in Sumvitg Switzerland, completed in 1988. The tear-dropped building flairs slightly at the base as it meets the concrete foundation. The wood shingle cladding gives way to full clerestory windows at the top. Vertical slats disperse the light inside, accentuating the bare timber interior.

An avalanche destroyed the old Baroque chapel in 1984.
