San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, California

Mario Botta designed the SFMOMA in San Francisco, completed in 1995.

With artworks by Jackson Pollock, Marcel Duchamp, Ansel Adams, and Andy Warhol, this is one of the world's leading modern art museums. It has five floors of galleries with 15,000 pieces of artwork. The $65-million project includes a back sculpture garden by Jensen Architects and landscaping by CMG Landscape.

The intricate brick work typical for Botta seems to reference the pre-earthquake San Fransisco. The strong symmetry, minimal vertical windows, and emerging linear comes straight out of early modernism (as post-modernism.) The white and black horizontal stripes at the entrance echo the brick pattern, and continue inside through the lobby, up the five floors, and finally emerge in a grand oculus. It is titled toward the sun, and floods the interior space with daylight, while providing some natural stack-heat venting. A walk bridge crosses the tall space near the top.

The San Francisco modern art museum acts as a historical museum of more recent history. But it also is a brilliant place to visit and truly uplifting.

STAR SPOTTING AT T4

We had an amazing time at T4's Stars of 2009 yesterday where Elite took over the Rimmel Catwalk Stage to launch the very first UK casting for Elite Model Look 2010. Our team of scouts braved the rain to check out the queue at Earl's Court and then race their 10 best finds to our backstage area for the fastest of catwalk classes before the girls were thrown into the spotlight to strut their stuff....

After all 10 girls had walked for the judges our winner was the gorgeous 16 year old Lottie O'Donoughue from Bromley, who impressed us so much that we're putting her straight into our EML final next summer. With 7 whole months to prepare we can't wait to see what she can do...

The stunning Rochelle Wiseman of girl group the Saturdays made time before her apperance on the main stage to add a sprinkling of celebrity sparkle to the judging panel... here she is with our EML UK 09 winner Nyasha Matonhodze, who's looking every inch the supermodel herself!

With our presenters - Hollyoaks' Matt & Darren, plus Paloma Faith, Ke$ha, Example and Rochelle's bandmate Frankie joining us backstage, it was one crowded green room.... EML 09 world finalist Emily Smith made sure she got the shots though - here she is meeting Edith Bowman, who was also presenting on our stage

What a month it’s been for amazing editorials! One of our favourites, Georgie Wass shows us how it’s done in the current issue of Plastique magazine. Smouldering makeup, huge hair and an array of fierce poses help transform our fresh faced girl from Australia into one hell of a Rock Star. We cant wait for Georgie to come back to London and with new material like this, who knows what direction her career is going to take!

4. It's your job to plan the company Christmas Soiree. You have planned:
   1. Dinner at the Bistro in Lumsden (that way I can sneak over and check out the fab flower shop that you keep hearing so much about!!)
   2. After careful planning: Limos will transport everyone through the scenic valley to Lumsden, where you will all have $50 to spend in the shops.
   3. You have a dinner planned at your epansive home, with cocktails, appies and live entertainment. Oh, and gifts for all. J
      
       
5. Your family draws couples' names for gift buying. When asked what you and your honey want:
   1. Hmmm, well you are renovating your home, so you ask for this gorgeous mirror from Lumsden Florist etc.
   2. Your honey is out of town... You ask for them to make you Chocolate Cherry Port - your fave! I think Lumsden Florist has 1 left...

   1. Jamming on a friends party, and staying in to watch Seinfeld re-runs on the tube. Hot chocolate in your new peek-a-boo snowman mug. Adorable!

   3. Plan a movie night and eat drink and be merry with your special hunny. Maybe break out that new bottle of caramel massage oil from LF?

T4 STARS OF 2009

Excitement is building around the Elite agency as we get ready to join forces with T4’s Stars of 2009 at London’s Earls Court this Sunday. Our expert scouts will be stationed throughout the venue, on the lookout for the faces of the future. Our ten favourite finds of the day will get the amazing opportunity to strut their stuff down the Rimmel Catwalk. The winner of the final ‘walk off’ gets a ticket straight to the UK semi-final of the world famous Elite Model Look Competition 2010 where Cindy Crawford and Gisele Bundchen took their first steps into the modelling world.

All this on top of performances by the likes of JLS, Alexandra Burke, Tinchy Stryder and The Saturdays?! If you haven’t got tickets what were you thinking!?
As well as the usual Elite London team, we shall be joined by our stars of EML 2009;  Emily Smith, Beth Leader and Nyasha Matonhodze who will be sharing their tips and experiences with the next generation of Elite Model Look hopefuls.

Architecture Calendar For 2010

Now available, Architecture Revived has compiled the best photos from 2010 architecture into a calendar for the holiday season. The price is $19.89, a small portion of which I receive for the betterment of this site.

Hansaviertel Housing Altonaer Straße 4-14, Berlin Germany

Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer designed this hochhaus in the Hansaviertel area of Berlin, completed in 1957. The 72 meter building contains 78 living units.

The entire structure is lifted off the ground floor in LeCorbusier fashion to open up the outside public area. Elevators are separated 7 meters from the building to clearly delineate the circulation route.

German apartment buildings take care to place living spaces facing the sun with balconies providing shading in the summer. One entire floor is dedicated to community activities for the entire building.
