Torre Agbar, Barcelona Spain

Jean Nouvel designed the phallic Torre Agbar at the Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes, Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It opened in 2005.

It rises like the Montserrat Moutain into the city skyline, 38 floors. Over 4,500 window slates, including over 56,619 transparent plates, glitter in the sunlight and are illuminated by colored LED patterns at night. Temperature sensors open and close the windows automatically, providing a diversity of image according to the time of day and climate setting. The combination of natural diversity and man-made LED diversity makes this simple form rather complex.
